Where It All Began

Score Seed and Garden Supply has deep roots in the Claymont community, dating back to the late 1980s when the store operated as Sweeney’s Seed Company — a trusted local name that homeowners and landscapers in the area depended on for quality lawn and garden products.

2010

A New Name, the Same Values

In 2010, Len Scorziello purchased the Claymont location and rebranded it as Score Seed and Garden Supply. Under Len’s stewardship, the store continued to grow a loyal customer base grounded in trust, expert service, and quality products that both homeowners and landscaping professionals could count on.

2020

Fresh Vision, Familiar Face

At the end of 2020, brothers Joe and Phil Kleiman took ownership of Score Seed and Garden Supply, bringing fresh energy and a commitment to modernizing the store without sacrificing the legacy customers had come to rely on. They brought in Eric Carr to manage day-to-day operations — and together they got to work.

Spring 2021

One of the First to Offer Fresh Sod

In one of their first major improvements, Score became one of the first stores in the area to offer fresh sod. This move meaningfully expanded the store’s service offerings to landscaping professionals and homeowners tackling large-scale lawn projects alike.

Late 2022

A Bigger Home on Philadelphia Pike

To better serve a growing customer base, Score relocated from the Town & Country Shopping Center in Claymont to a larger, standalone property at 211 Philadelphia Pike in Wilmington, DE. The new location offers more space, easier access, and greater opportunity to carry the products our customers need.

March 2025

Eric Carries the Torch

After several years of leading daily operations, Eric Carr purchased Score Seed and Garden Supply from the Kleimans. Today Eric owns and operates the store, continuing a tradition of hands-on, community-focused ownership that has defined this business for more than three decades.

Eric
Owner & Operator

Eric joined Score in 2021 to lead day-to-day operations and purchased the business in March 2025. His hands-on approach and commitment to customer service are at the heart of everything Score does today.

Team Veteran

A familiar face who has been with the store since the Sweeney’s days, Laddie brings decades of product knowledge and a depth of experience that few can match.

Team Member

Eric’s very first hire when he joined in 2021, Joey has been an integral part of the Score team that is always ready to help customers find exactly what they need.
